Sweatpants are probably the most comfortable sportswear. They are available in different fabric blends, colors, and styles, making them one of the most versatile clothing pieces. They have advanced from being just sportswear to everyday casual wear as well.
Despite being worn on a lazy trip to the diner on a cold morning or by fashionistas trying to making a statement, sweatpants still remain a staple in sports activities and PE classes.
Such is the case for this high school PE teacher whom we asked to review one of the highest-rated sweatpants online: Fruit of the Loom Men’s Elastic Bottom Sweatpants.
The material is the perfect blend of cotton and polyester, ensuring no stretching or shrinking. They’re designed with a wider waistband for comfortable, yet reliable wear. The deep pockets are a great feature for people who like to bring stuff along when they go for a run or to the gym.

I have been a high school PE teacher for almost a decade. I have probably gone through thousands of sweatpants from different brands by now, and I don’t really care about a brand name.
As long as they’re comfortable, fit right, and don’t feel heavy or baggy in the bottom, I’ll wear them for as long as they last. Besides, my wife usually buys my sweatpants for me anyway.
I received the Fruit of the Loom sweatpants and was asked to see what I think of them. Even though I thought I didn’t care about the “performance” of my sweatpants, which has been my uniform for years, I realized through this exercise that I have actually formed a preference for what I wear to work. This absolutely makes sense since I’ve had a good amount of experience regarding sportswear.
Right off the bat, I noticed that this pair is slightly heavier than the typical pairs I wear. I mentioned before that I don’t like my sweatpants baggy. Well, this one kind of is.
They let me choose what size to get, and with the help of my wife I got my usual size that I would in other brands, but the sizing must be off (or just different, that’s fine) because while they fit really nicely at the waist, the legs are a little too big – big enough that they are indeed heavier than most sweatpants.
They’re not uncomfortable at all, though. In fact, it’s the total opposite. They’re super soft and comfortable. I realized that these are similar to the ones I wear during the winter months, except lighter.
The material sits on an awkward line between what I wear in the summer and what I wear in the colder season, so it’s not enough for the coldest days. They are suited for wearing when I’m staying in, or when it’s not that hot outside.
The pockets are nice. They are deep enough to hold my stuff, like a phone and keys. They’re almost the same quality and size as those on my other sweatpants, and this definitely makes it better than some in my closet without pockets.
As for shrinkage, I didn’t notice any. I wore these every other day so I could write a decent review, which meant they were washed more often than my other sweatpants. Even with all that washing, I noticed no shrinking or pilling of the fabric. My wife says she has definitely encountered some sweatpants that pill after a few washes.
As a PE teacher, I think they’re all right to wear every now and then to work or for lounging on my days off, but they’re not something I plan to wear for high intensity exercising or playing sports with my students during class.
I recommend the Fruit of the Loom Men’s Elastic Bottom Sweatpants to anyone who likes to wear sweatpants at home, but not for any activity that will require you to move a lot and sweat because they’re heavy and a little too warm for that.
